Tell your MP: Don’t let the Home Secretary mark her own homework

For survivors of torture, the consequences of getting an asylum decision wrong can be a matter of life and death. Every day, asylum appeal courts overturn wrongful refusals of protection by the Home Office and stop people being returned to persecution.

The Government wants to replace this appeals court with a new body that is far less independent, giving the Home Secretary too much influence over how asylum appeals are reviewed.

Everyone deserves a fair hearing – one that is free from political influence. We can't allow this vital safeguard to be used to serve the political priorities of the Home Secretary. Without a truly independent appeals process, survivors could be at greater risk of being sent back to their torturers.

Email your MP today and tell them: don’t let the Home Secretary mark her own homework. Protect the right to a fully independent appeal.
